# Updating

> Checking for and applying new releases

An update checker (Phase 9 of the roadmap) runs against azvian's licensing platform on the daily schedule set up during [installation](/seo/installation#background-processes) — this is what the cron entry actually drives.

Back up your database before applying any update, especially if you've customized configuration or templates directly rather than through the Admin UI.
